Al’ummar Kanuri (Barebari) sun shahara wajen girmama na gabansu (manyan), waɗanda da suka ƙunshi tsofaffi da masana da shugabannin al’umma. Sakamakon haka ne suke gabatar da kalmar Baa ga dukkan sunayen magabata maza. Kalmar tana ɗauke da ma’anar Baba. Yayin da suke gabatar da kalmar Ya ga sunayen mata, wadda take nufin Inna ba tare da la’akari da shekarun wanda ake kira ba, kamar yadda Waziri (2000 p. 23) ya bayyana.
Ita kuwa kalmar Yaa takan gabaci
(kan zo kafin) sunan wa ko yaya
ko kaka da ke nufin mahaifiyar uwa ko uba.
A bisa wannan tarbiyyar ce, mai suna Garba sai ƙaninsa ya kira shi
da Yaa Garba. Yayin da sa’ar (tsarar) ‘ya’yansa za su kira shi
da Baa Garba. Baba Garba ke nan.
Su kuwa tsarar jikokinsa su ce Kaka Garba.
Ta fuskar mata kuwa,
ga misali, mai suna Aisa sukan kira
ta da Yaa Aisa ko Kaka
Aisa tamkar yadda akan ambaci namiji domin girmamawa.
Sakamakon haka ne sai a wayi gari ya kasance mutum ya shahara da ɗafa-goshin
da aka yi masa, wato sai
a cigaba da ambatonsa/ta, da Baa ko Kaka ko Yaa.
A bisa tsarin tarbiyyar
Kanuri (Barebari), ɗanyan baki ne (batsa ko rashin kunya) mutum ya kira mahaifinsa ko na wani ko na gaba
da shi da ainahin tsagwaron sunansa. Sakamakon al’ada ta shata yadda za a rinƙa ambaton na gaba
a bisa wannan tsarin:

Yayin da aka raɗa wa jinjiri sunan ɗaya daga cikin waɗannan dangin da aka ambata, girmamawar da ake yi masa tana naso a kansa (shafar sa). A sakamakon haka ne suke ɗafa-ƙeyar Gana (ƙarin kalmar Gana a ƙarshen kalmar) wadda ke ɗauke da ma’anar ƙarami.
Don
haka, idan aka sanya wa jinjiri sunan mahaifin uban yaron sai
a dinga kiransa da Baba Gana ko Abbanyi
Gana. A wasu lokutan akan ambace shi da Abatcha, kamar yadda aka
bayyana a sama. Wasu kuwa kan yi amfani da Awuzu, ko Buchu ko
kuma Mbatcha ba tare da ɗafa-ƙeyar Gana ba.
Waɗanda suka zana wa ‘ya’yansu sunayen mahaifiyarsu, a sakamakon laƙabin sukan kira su
da: Yagana ko Yanyi
Gana, wanda ke ɗauke da ma’anar ƙaramar uwa. Su kuwa waɗanda suka zana wa ‘ya’yansu sunayen kakanninsu, sukan kira su
da: Kaka Gana ko Ƙyari (Dattijo) ga ɗa namiji, mace kuwa a kira ta: Ka’ana ko
kuma Ƙumurso,
kamar yadda Waziri (2000 p. 23)
ya nuna.
Shigar giragizai da ya wanzu
a tsakanin wannan al’umma da waccan ta fuskar al’adu da ɗabi’u sakamakon auratayya, wanda ya zama
ruwan dare a tsakanin Kanuri
da Shuwa-Arab. Ya haifar da nason sunaye
a tsakaninsu. Inda har
aka sami ɗauko wasu sunayen mutuntawa daga Shuwa-Arab. Misalai daga cikinsu
