Al’ummar Kanuri tamkar sauran al’ummomi ne ta wajen bayar da sunaye ga ‘ya’yan da Allah Ya albarkace su da haihuwa. Tun a zamanin duhun kai (jahiliyya) sun riƙa sanya wa ’ya’yansu sunayen abubuwa mabambanta kamar: Dabbobi da tsuntsaye da halittu masu rarrafe da tsirrai da sandararrun abubuwa masu alfarma. Duk da haka ba sa sanya wa ‘ya’yansu sunayen ƙasƙantattun abubuwa don gudun kada ɗabi’unsu su yi tasiri ga rayuwarsu. A sakamakon haka ne suke da sunayen laƙabi da suke ɗauke da ma’anonin nau’o’in abubuwan kamar yadda za a gani ɗaya bayan ɗaya kamar haka:

Laƙabi da Sunayen Dabbobi

Dabba wata halitta ce mai ƙafa huɗu. Ba ta magana kuma ba ta da cikakken tunani. Ita ma ta kasu kashi uku kamar haka:

(1) Dabbar gida 

(2) Dabbar dawa (daji) 

(3) Dabbar ruwa.

Bayyanar addinin Musulunci a tsakanin al’ummar Kanuri (Barebari) bai hana su ci gaba da amfani da irin waɗannan sunayen gargajiya ba. Hasali ma, sai irin waɗannan sunaye suka zama sunayen laƙabi gare su. Sakamakon haka ne akan samu mutane suna karɓar sunayen dabbobi a matsayin laƙabinsu. Misalai daga cikinsu sun haɗa da:

Sanya wa ɗan’adam laƙabi ta amfani da sunayen dabbobi, lamari ne da ya zama ruwan dare game duniya da ake iya samu a tsakanin al’ummomi daban-daban. Kodayake yayin da wasu al’ummomin suka karɓi adinin Musulunci sai sunayen suka sauya suka zama na laƙabi a madadin na yanka. Duk da haka, al’ummar Larabawa sun cigaba da amfani da irin waɗannan sunaye a matsayin na yanka.
