Hadith Forbidding Hellfire To Anyone Who Informs Another Of A New Month Of Ramadan

𝑸𝑼𝑬𝑺𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵

Assalaamu alaykum. This message has been spread by a lot of people these days. “Spread the news of Ramadan.” “The Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said that if one informs another about Ramadan first, then hellfire will become haram for that individual.” Please, can you let me know if this hadith is authentic or not. May Allaah reward you.

Wa'alaikumus Salam warahamtullahi Wabarkatuh

We have not come across, in the books of the scholars that we have at hand – despite their abundant number – a hadeeth with the meaning that you mentioned. Nevertheless, there is a hadeeth that indicates the permissibility of giving glad tidings (telling people to make them rejoice) at the occasion of the coming of Ramadan;

Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said to his Companions, “There has come to you the month of Ramadan, which Allaah has enjoined you to fast. In this month, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hellfire are closed. The devils are chained in this month, and there is a night in it which is better than a thousand months of worship: whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.” [Ahmad - Shu'ayb al-Arnaa’oot graded it saheeh (sound)]

There is no evidence from Sharia proving that whoever informs people about the start date of Ramadan, in advance, will be forbidden to Hellfire. Therefore, this message is incorrect, and, in principle, it should be put out of circulation one way or the other as the Hadith included in it is fabricated.

 It's actually spreading like wild fire. I recently received the fabricated hadith forbidding hellfire to anyone who informs another of the coming of the Holy month of ramadan. I initially thought the fabrication was regarding the month of Rajab and Rabiulawal alone, till I received the one for ramadan. I wish to urge us to always verify issues concerning religion before putting it online. The effect is very severe as the punishment of hellfire is guaranteed for fabricators of the sayings of the prophet. Please, before you forward that message to someone else, read it, confirm it, or ask from those who know.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “To fabricate my words is not like fabricating any other person’s words. The person who fabricates my words should prepare an abode for himself in the fire of hell.” (Sahih al bukhari, Hadith #: 1291).

It is therefore imperative that one exercises caution when one receives information of such a nature wherein there is no authentic reference mentioned. Such pieces of information should be referred to reliable and learned scholars for verification.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
