Read The Whole Surah Al-Kahf On Friday

Can I read just the first and last ten Aayaat of Surah al-Kahf on Friday instead of reading the whole Surah?

Reading Surah al-Kahf on Fridays is something recommended from the Sunnah according to the majority of the scholars.

For example:

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri radhi Allaahu anhu said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ancient House (the Ka’bah).”

(al-Daarimi- saheeh by al-Albaani)

And: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.” (al-Haakim, al-Bayhaqi- saheeh by al-Albaani)

However these ahaadeeth are talking about reading the Surah as a whole on Fridays, because of the special virtue of this Noble Surah and the great lessons it contains.

However, the ahaadeeth that talk about reading the first ten or last ten aayaat of Surah al-Kahf are specifically regarding protection from the DAJJAAL. So this is a separate issue and should not be confused with the first

The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever among you sees him (the Dajjaal), let him recite against him the opening verses of Soorat al-Kahf.” (Muslim).

And he said: “Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the False Messiah.”

In the narration of Shu’bah, the Prophet Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam said, “…from the last ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf.” (Muslim)

These Aayaat of Surah al-Kahf can be read any time or day. And they are not just restricted to “Fridays”.

The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam only asked us to learn and memorize these verses of Surah al-Kahf and did not specify a time or day for them to be read. So we should read them and memorize them as a protection against the biggest, most dangerous fitnah mankind will ever see.

May Allaah protect us. Ameen.

And Allaah knows best.
